Now that’s a fit girl safely executing a Perfect OHP

Many so called exercise experts who are busy telling you what your body cannot do rather than focusing on what the body can do would have you believe that the normal act of lifting objects over your head is harmful to the shoulder joint.

Why the human body would evolve to be made capable of a particular joint action, which is potentially harmful to itself is beyond me. … Read more

I hate using the word “Natural” because it is always somehow misused to propagate a myth. But here you have it… Me saying “Breathe naturally”!!!! (Sic). Here follows the explanation:

Without thinking about breathing, no one, who has to lift a lot of weight or push or pull something with max effort will ever inhale during the concentric.
Beginner or advanced… The Valsalwa lock in happens instinctively when engaging in a maximal effort in any activity in day to day life…

Things contrary to the above always happen when some individual consciously decides to breathe correctly…. As would … Read more

The K11 FB Fan Page has become a Portal for getting detailed answers on queries with regards to Exercise & Sports Nutrition Sciences… I am definitely proud of the amount of information & education we have been able to disseminate through this page…

But some believe that it is hypocritical on my part to NOT allow discussions on Pharmacological Aids for Muscular development & strength enhancement (AKA – Anabolic Androgenic Steroids)… That since it is but obvious that as a competitive Bodybuilder, I would partake in the use of these aids… It is downright unfair on my … Read more

In today’s world, one requires three things to excel in any field. One is ambition, the second is talent and the third is credibility. While the first two are either inborn or induced through hard work and practice, credibility is an external aspect and can only be provided by a degree, diploma or certification. Fitness trainer certification courses are becoming increasingly popular among individuals looking to make a career in the fitness industry. Acquiring a fitness instructor certificate is the first rung of the ladder followed by advanced certification courses in the field.

A fitness trainer certification course offers you knowledge … Read more

“I have been diagnosed with slip disc, will I ever be able to work-out with weights?”
“I got a ligament tear in the knee, will I ever be able to do Squats? “
“I have osteoarthritis of the knee, should I be weight training?”

As a practicing Physiotherapist, I come across such questions everyday…
Well the answer to all of the above 3 questions is a very loud & affirmative YES!

The reason why I am so certain about this is because apart from being a Medico involved in rehab, I myself am an advanced level Strength Trainee & enjoy the benefits … Read more

The other day, I was observing a lady doing the Triceps Push Down. Her body appeared lax, limp and floppy. I thought to myself – if only she would hold herself a little tauter, she would generate more force in the exercise. It was evident she was not tapping into what she was capable of.

To bring rigidity in the body is like getting ready. It is like gearing up to put in all you have to attack the resistance at hand – it’s like going to war! A rigid body contributes to retaining focus and aggression all throughout the … Read more

One of K11’s finest student’s & soon to be faculty – Suraj Datwani, in reply to a query on Glutamine benefits wrote a very comprehensive post on the various benefits of supplementing with Glutamine.

The benefits listed were:
1. Anti-Catabolic
2. Cell Hydrator/Volumiser
3. Immunity Booster
4. GH Potentiator

To that there were lots of comments saying that there were enough studies to prove that Glutamine did not do jack & was a complete waste of money.

My effort here again is to put things into perspective… Cause everything in life seems right from a particular perspective & the same can seem totally … Read more

You all know what I look like in the off season muscle gain cycle… Me being an Endo-Meso always gain more fat than I ever want to while gaining muscle… But as the attached photo shows… that never stops me from coming in super ripped come contest time… (Before any of you point to the light dumbbells in my hands… please note that I am just about to start a set of Lateral raises at the moment the photo was clicked.)

Intelligent people rely on scientific studies to tell them what’s right & what is wrong… Especially in the weird unsubstantiated world of Fitness sciences, it becomes all the more important to rely on what’s proven by clinical research…

But sometimes or maybe a lot of times a study & its conclusions are taken out of context on purpose to propagate nonsense… A prime example of this is the recent brouhaha on a diet protocol called as INTERMITTENT FASTING (IF)…

It was observed that brief periods of fasting induced a surge in Growth Hormone release well over the normal spurts of GH release … Read more
