Workshop on gym application for people with Knee Pathologies

Dear Members/Students,

Thanks a lot in taking out time on a Sunday morning to attend the K11 Workshop on “Gym Applications for people with Knee Pathologies”. The reason for this workshop was basically to understand the most common knee pathologies and do’s and don’ts with regards to exercise. This was to see to it that a person with a knee condition wanting to improve his fitness, does so without aggravating his condition.
The speaker for the workshop was Dr.Anand Gangwal , Masters in Orthopaedics , Sports and Manual  Physiotherapy, Australia.
Please find below details of the points that were covered in the workshop.

Dear Steve,
My name is Kaizzad Capadia, I am Indian by origin (Not a Native American Indian but from the country India) and am a strength coach. I have my own Fitness Academy by the name of K11 Fitness Academy that teaches & certifies Personal Trainers. The K11 Academy is spread nationwide & we have been operating since the past 6 years & have taught more than 7000 students.

The write up attached herewith are my interpretations with regards to strength training based on Anatomical, kinesiological & physiological principles. I consider them to be unique, no nonsense & completely based on scientific fact. Being an avid reader of your magazine & also having been enlightened with many a great article...there have been many instances where I have begged to differ with the writers more so specifically on articles related to strength training. This includes training specifically for competitive bodybuilders - which I feel is an anomaly in itself. As I do not believe that principles of weight training differ for a competitive bodybuilder or a house wife. The physiological response of the human body to resistance training is the same for all of mankind (The rate at & extent to which the body manifests results varies but not the response.)

My Article for MD that never got printed

K11 selection criteria for weight training exercises.

1. An exercise must be kinesiologically correct –
There are lots of movements in weight training that are accepted due to tradition rather than scientific reasoning. For e.g. The Upright row is considered to be a Trapezius movement by many so called fitness experts. This is totally incorrect as in the upright row, resistance is provided to the abduction of the humerus at the shoulder joint & this is the function of the Middle head of the Deltoid & not the Trapezius.
Hence K11 does not recommend the use of Upright rows to develop the trapezius.
